The Impact of Privatization on Export in Transition Economies: A Panel Study

Öz In this study, we examine the relationship between variousindicators of privatization and exports. We test thehypothesis that privatization contributes to boost exportsin transition economies by exploiting a panel dataset including the period 1989 to 2008 and 25 transitioneconomies and using five privatization indicators. We identified a positive correlation between privatizationand exports. This finding is statistically significantand valid for five different privatization indicators. Thus, the results suggest that privatization stimulatesexports in transition economies, controlling for otherfactors that may contribute to increase in exports
