How to Report the Literature in Scientific Research?

The literature review section of a scientific paper is the part of the paper that highlights the body of knowledge on the topic under study and explains the rationale for the study. However, research shows that cited studies are not read, related studies are summarized in a passive and descriptive manner, and a scientific structuring strategy is not followed. The purpose of this study was to present strategies for writing the literature review section through textual analysis. An example of a literature review section has been written and the strategies used have been presented through a text analysis. In this way, researchers are not only presented with strategies for reporting the literature review, but also how these strategies can be applied as demonstrated through text analysis of a sample. In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that an integrative writing style and critical language, rather than a passive and descriptive one, should be used when reporting a literature review. Although there are different classifications for structuring strategies in reporting literature review, the distant to close strategy and the thematic synthesis strategy are widely accepted strategies.
