Bariyatrik cerrahi adaylarında yaşam kalitesi ve benlik saygısı

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı bariyatrik cerrahi adayları (BCA) ile kontrol grubu arasında benlik saygısı ve yaşam kalitesi arasındaki farklılığı saptamaktır. İkinci amacımız, BCA’da yaşam kalitesi ile benlik saygısı arasındaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmektir. Yöntem: Çalışma Haydarpaşa Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi’nde BCA olarak değerlendirilen bir grup hasta ile yapıldı. Kontrol grubu ve ardışık başvuru yapan 61 BCA Kısa Form-36 (KF-36), Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği (RBSÖ) ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ) ile değerlendirildi. Kontrol grubu aynı hastanede çalışan 61 normal kilolu bireyden oluşturuldu. Sonuçlar: BCA grubu 50 kadın 11 erkekten oluştu. Kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırıldığında BCA KF-36’nın tüm alt ölçeklerinden, RBSÖ ve BDÖ’den istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde daha düşük puanlar aldı. BCA grubunda yaşam boyu bir psikiyatrik bozukluğa sahip olma ve herhangi bir eş tıbbi tanıya sahip olma oranları kontrol grubundan istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde yüksekti. Regresyon ana- lizi sonucunda BCA grubunda benlik saygısına en çok KF-36’nın mental sağlık alt ölçek puanının ve BDÖ puanının etki ettiği saptandı. Tartışma: BCA’da benlik saygısı ve yaşam kalitesi birbiriyle ilişkili kavramlardır. Benlik saygısı beklenildiği üzere en çok mental sağlık ve depresyon düzeyi ile ilişkilidir. Bu grup hastaların değerlendirme ve tedavi sürecinde psikiyatrik izleme önem taşımaktadır. (Anadolu Psikiyatri Derg 2019; 20(1):20-28)

Self-esteem and quality of life in bariatric surgery candidates

The basic aim of this study was to explore the differences between bariatric surgery candidates (BSC) and control group in self-esteem and quality of life. In addition, our secondary aim is to find out the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life in bariatric surgery candidates. Methods: The study involves a group of BSCs screened at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. Sixty-one consecutive BSCs and control group assessed by Short Form-36 (SF-36), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Control group was constituted from 61 normal-weight employees from the same hospital. Results: BSCs group consisted from 50 women and 11 men. BSCs scored statistically lower on all the SF-36 subscales, BDI and self- esteem scale compared with controls. The rates of having a lifetime psychiatric disorder and having any comorbid medical condition in the BSCs were statistically significantly higher than the control group. Because of regression analysis, mental health subscale score of SF-36 and BDI score were found to have the most effect on self-esteem in BSCs group. Conclusion: Self-esteem and quality of life are interrelated concepts in BSCs. Self-esteem is most commonly associated with mental health and depression levels as expected. Psychiatric follow-up has a great importance in evaluation and treatment of these patients. (Anatolian Journal of Psychiatry 2019; 20(1):20-28)
