K Vitamini ve Glukoz Homeostazı

Diyabet ve prediyabet dünya çapında görülme sıklığı gün geçtikçe artan, morbidite ve mortalite ile ilişkili olduğu bilinen endokrin bir bozukluktur. Diyabetin patogenezinde bozulmuş insülin duyarlılığı ve glukoz intoleransı önemli bir role sahiptir. Dünya genelinde diyabet prevalansının artmasıyla birlikte son yıllarda yapılan çalışmalar hastalığın önlenmesi ve yönetiminde K vitaminin glukoz homeostazındaki potansiyel etkilerini göstermiştir. Kan pıhtılaşmasındaki işleviyle bilinen K vitamininin insülin duyarlılığını ve glukoz intoleransını iyileştirmede, insülin direncini önlemede ve tip 2 diyabet riskini azaltmada yararlı rolünün olduğu bildirilmektedir. Hem hayvan hem de insan çalışmalarında K vitaminine bağlı protein osteokalsinin, adiponektin seviyesini düzenlemek suretiyle bu süreçle ilişkili olduğu gösterilmiştir. Bununla birlikte antiinflamatuar ve lipit düşürücü etkisiyle K vitamininin glukoz homeostazı üzerindeki olumlu etkileri de dikkat çekmektedir. Bu derlemede K vitamininin glukoz homeostazına etkisinin değerlendirilmesi ve olası etki mekanizmalarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır

Vitamin K and Glucose Homeostasis

Diabetes and prediabetes are endocrine disorders that are known to be associated with morbidity and mortality, with an increasing incidence worldwide. Impaired insulin sensitivity and glucose intolerance play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetes. Upon the increasing worldwide prevalence of diabetes, recent studies have shown the potential effects of vitamin K on glucose homeostasis in the prevention and management of the disease. Known for its function in blood clotting, vitamin K has been reported to have a beneficial role in improving insulin sensitivity and glucose intolerance, preventing insulin resistance, and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Both animal and human studies have shown that the vitamin K-related protein osteocalcin is associated with this process by regulating adiponectin levels. However, with its anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering effects, the positive effects of vitamin K on glucose homeostasis are also noteworthy.
