Giriş ve Amaç: Bu çalışmada, üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi yapılmış hastalarda hepatit C ve hepatit B sıklığı araştırılıp, üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi yapılmamış popülasyonla karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Polikliniğimize başvuran üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi yapılmış olan hastalardan (grup A), HbsAg, anti-Hbs, anti-HCV göstergeleri istendi. Geçirilmiş sarılık öyküsü olan, hepatit B aşısı uygulanmış olan ve son 3 ay içerisinde üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi yapılmış olan hastalar çalışmaya dahil edilmedi. Hasta sayısı için üst sınır 300 olarak belirlendi. Kontrol grubu olarak (grup B), polikliniğimize herhangi bir şikayetle başvuran, üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi yapılmamış 100 hasta seçildi. Kontrol grubundan da aynı hepatit göstergeleri istendi. Bulgular: Grup A'daki 300 hastanın 206 (%68)'si kadın, 94 (%32)'ü erkekti. Yaş ortalaması bu grupta 46.6'ydı. 300 hastanın, 10 (%3.3)'unda HbsAg pozitif, 2 (%0.6)'sinde anti-HCV pozitif, 95(%31)'inde anti-Hbs pozitif saptandı. Grup B'deki 100 hastanın 74'ü erkek, 26'sı kadındı. Yaş ortalaması bu grupta 45.1'di. 100 hastanın 3 (%3)'ünde HbsAg pozitif, 1 (%1)'inde anti-HCV pozitif, 23 (%23)'ünde anti-Hbs pozitif saptandı. 2 grup arasındaki bu fark istatiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmadı. Sonuç: İki grup arasında hepatit B ve hepatit C göstergeleriyle yapılan taramada istatiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık bulunmamıştır. Bu bulgular gösterir ki; daha önce gastroskopi yapılmış hastalarda hepatit B ve hepatit C sıklığı diğer hastalara göre farklı değildir.

Background and Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C infections in patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (Group A) and to compare the prevalence of this population with that of a control group of patients with no history of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (Group B). Materials and Methods: HbsAg, anti-Hbs and anti-HCV parameters were tested in both groups. Patients who had an acute-chronic hepatitis or passive immunization in their hepatitis B history or who had any endoscopic procedure during the last three months were excluded from the study. Three hundred patients in Group A and 100 controls in Group B were included in the study. Results: In Group A, 68% of patients were female and 32% were male, and their mean age was 46. Ten (3.3%) of the 300 patients were HbsAg-positive, 2 (0.6%) were anti-HCV- positive and 95 (31%) were anti-Hbs-positive. In Group B, 74% of patients were male and 26% were female, and their mean age was 45.1. Three (3%) of the 100 patients were HbsAg-positive, 1 (1%) anti-HCV-positive and 23 (23%) anti-Hbs-positive. Conclusions: A comparison of the two groups for hepatitis B and hepatitis C parameters demonstrated no statistically significant differences between them. Our findings show that the prevalence of hepatitis B and C in patients who undergo gastroscopy does not differ when compared to other patients
