Pandemi Sonrası Psikolojik Stres ile Baş Etmede Öz-Belirlenim ve Farkındalık
Alanyazında öz-belirlenimin ve farkındalığın iyi oluş halini yordadıkları ve psikolojik sorunlara karşı koruyucu birer etken oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Mevcut çalışma, farkındalığı öz-belirlenim (ihtiyaç doyumu ve engellenmesi) ile psikolojik stres arasındaki ilişkide bir aracı değişken olarak incelemektedir. Ayrıca, katılımcıların koronavirüs hastalığından algıladıkları etkinin (yükseğe karşı düşük etki) bu ilişkideki moderatör rolünü incelemektedir. Mevcut çalışmada, öz-bildirim yöntemine dayanan araçlar kullanılarak Türk örneklemden (N= 468, Ortage= 26.77; SSage = 7.54) veriler toplanılmıştır. Yapısal eşitlik modelinin temel analiz yöntemi olarak kullanıldığı bu çalışmada farkındalığın psikolojik temel ihtiyaçlar (ihtiyaç doyumu ve ihtiyaç engellenmesi) ile psikolojik stres arasındaki aracı rolü incelenmiştir. Moderatör aracı değişkenin etkisi ise doğrudan ve dolaylı ilişki katsayılarındaki oluşan farklara bakılarak incelenmiştir. Sonuçlara göre farkındalık ve ihtiyaç doyumu daha düşük psikolojik stresi yordarken ihtiyaç engellenmesi ise daha yüksek psikolojik stresi yordamıştır. Koronavirüsün etkisini yüksek algılayan katılımcılar düşük algılayanlara göre anlamlı olarak daha yüksek psikolojik stres rapor etmiştir. Farkındalık ihtiyaç doyumu ve psikolojik stres arasındaki ilişkide anlamlı bir aracı değişkendir fakat ihtiyaç engellenmesi ve psikolojik stres arasındaki ilişkide anlamlı bir aracı değişken değildir. Doğrudan ve dolaylı etkiler incelendiğinde, yüksek ve düşük etki algılayan kişilerde bu etkilerin farklılık göstermediği gözlenmiştir. Uygulama ve araştırma için öneriler tartışılmıştır.
Self-determination and Mindfulness in Coping with Post-pandemic Psychological Distress
Self-determination and mindfulness are found in literature to be predicting wellbeing and as protective factors against psychological problems. The present research examines mindfulness as a mediator of self-determination (need satisfaction vs. frustration) in predicting psychological distress. In addition, the participants’ perceived impact of the Coronavirus disease (low vs. high) was examined as the moderator. The present research used self-report instruments to collect data from a Turkish community sample in a cross-sectional design (N= 468, Mage= 26.77; SDage = 7.54). Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used in testing the mediator role of mindfulness in the relationship between self-determination and psychological distress. Moderation analysis was tested through the differences in direct and indirect relationships. The findings showed that mindfulness and need satisfaction predicted lower psychological distress, and need frustration predicted higher psychological distress. Psychological distress was significantly higher among the participants with high impact than low impact. Mindfulness mediated the relationship of need satisfaction with psychological distress, yet mindfulness did not mediate the relationship of need frustration and psychological distress. The indirect and direct relationships did not differ among the high and low impact participants. Potential implications for counseling and research are discussed.
