İnsan Hakları, Yurttaşlık ve Demokrasi ders içeriğinde yer alan insan haklarına ilişkin kazanımların güncel olaylarla ilişkilendirilmesinde gazeteler, öğretim aracı olarak kullanılabilmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı 4.sınıfta İnsan Hakları, Yurttaşlık ve Demokrasi dersi öğretim etkinliklerinde gazete kullanımının derse yönelik tutum ve başarı üzerindeki etkisini belirlemektir. Araştırmada, öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel araştırma modeli kullanılmıştır. Deney grubunda dört hafta süre ile hak, sorumluluk ve çocuk hakları ile ilgili kazanımlar, gazete kullanımına dayalı olarak hazırlanmış etkinliklerle zenginleştirilerek işlenmiş, kontrol grubunda ise bu dersler gazete etkinlikleri kullanılmadan geleneksel öğretim yöntemi ile işlenmiştir. Araştırma, 2015-2016 eğitimöğretim yılında Ankara'nın Keçiören ilçesindeki bir ilkokulun 4. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 50 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin derse yönelik tutumlarını belirlemek için "İnsan Hakları, Yurttaşlık ve Demokrasi Dersi Tutum Ölçeği" ve başarı düzeylerini belirlemek için ise "İnsan Hakları Başarı Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde ortalama, standart sapma ve t-testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğrencilerin insan hakları başarı düzeyi ve derse ilişkin tutumları arasında deney grubu lehine anlamlı bir fark olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır

Using Newspapers In Human Rights Education

Violation of rights in the world show that reflections of the decisions in life taken related to human rights in the international documents is possible only individuals’ gaining right and responsibility consciousness. The individual’s realizing his rights, defending them with relevant methods when required, defending others’ rights are the acquisitions which can be realized with effective human rights education. “Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy” started to be given in the 4th grades starting from 2015-2016 semester with 25.06.2012 date and 69 numbered decision taken by Board of Education with the aim of gaining a course content starting from younger ages about human rights, citizenship and democratic values. Human rights education is a process going on lifelong in parallel with the changes in the family and social developments. Methods, techniques and materials which will be used in human rights education has a great importance to gain the expected behaviours which are expected from the individual to exhibit. Stories have been proposed for every acquisition as the materials to be used in Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy Course Curriculum (2015) and it has been stated that international documents related to human rights can be benefited. It is observed that activities related to answering the questions about the text by giving a story for every acquisition in the course book which has been prepared by MoNE. Newspaper is an easy accessible teaching material in relating acquisions related with human rights with daily events. The newspapers are windows of life. The teacher will provide the vitality of knowledge for his students with the designed creative ideas and carefully planned newspaper usage activites. In this study, the effect of usage of newspaper activities in 4th grade Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy Course teaching has been examined on academic success of students and attitudes towards the course. When the literature has been examined on the subject, it has been determined that the studies related to human rights education have been realized on the courses of Social Sciences, History, Geography or 8th grade Citizenship and Human Rights. It has been observed that studies related to 4th grade Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy course have been limited. It is thought that the research results will fill in this gap and shed light on the activities and researches related to human rights education in elementary schools.In the research, semi experimental figure with pre-test last test control group has been used. The research has been realized with the participation of 50 students attending 4th grade of an elementary school in Ankara, Keçiören of Ministry of National Education in 2015-2016 semester. Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy Course success test and attitude scale related to Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy Course have been used to collect data in the research. Application process of the research has been completed in four weeks. Success test and attitude scale has been used with the aim of determining the knowledge levels of students and their attitudes towards the course as a pre-test. The courses in the experimental group have been performed in the frame of curriculum including newspaper activities. The courses in the control group teaching has been realized without related newspaper activities. After the application, success test and attitude scale has been applied to experimental and control group students as a final test. Frequency, arithmetical average and percentage distribution have been calculated for the analysis of data related to the research. T-test for free groups has been used in testing the difference between pre-test –final test success and attitude averages of experimental and control group. According to the results of free t-test analysis results on the scores of academic success scale of experimental and control group, it has been observed that there is a meaningful difference between success pre-test averages of experimental and control groups p= 0.95 (p>0.05).
