The giant cell tumour of the proximal phalanx of the thumb treated by a 2-stage operation
We present a 29-year-old woman who was treated for a giant-cell tumour of her thumb. Surgicaltreatment was performed in two stages. In theŞrst stage, the tumour was removed and the Şrstmetacarpal and distal phalanges wereŞxed by an external Şxator. In the second stage of reconstructionof the thumb, a cortico-cancellous bone graft from the iliac crest, an externalŞxator and doublearthrodesis were used. This two-stage procedure provides the possibility for conŞrming the diagnosisand appropriate treatment choice and minimizes the risk of recurrence.© 2017 Turkish Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
