İzleyicinin yapıtla iletişim kurduğu, duygusal anlam yüklediği yer olarak sanat yapıtının sergilendiği mekanlar; tarihsel süreç içerisinde sanat yapıtı ve müzelerin değişimi ile ilgili olarak değişir. Günümüzdeki anlamıyla ilk kez on beşinci yüzyılda ortaya çıkan müzeler; on sekizinci yüzyılda nicelik acısından artış göstermelerine karşın sergileme mekanı olarak asıl gelişimlerini yirminci yüzyılda gösterirler. Yirminci yüzyılda modenist ve postmodernist süreç içerisinde sanat yapıtının değişen yapısı; sergi mekanın da yapısının farklılaşmasına neden olur, sergilemede yapıt-mekan ilişkisi önem kazanır. Sergileme mekanlarının gelişim sürecinde New York Modern Sanat Müzesi (MoMA) ve Frankfurt Modern Sanat Müzesi (MMK) modern ve postmodern sergileme mekanı örnekleri olarak ele alınmış, sergi mekanın yapısı; yapıt-mekan ilişkisi açısından bu iki müze örneği üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir

The places where works of art are exhibited are the places in which the audience communicates with the artwork and gives emotional meaning to the art thes change in time as the artworks and museums themselves. Museums as we know them did not first come into being until the 15th century, they did not begin to develop as public spaces until the18th and it is in the 20th century that pace of this development greatly increased. In this century, in both modernist and postmodernist periods the structure of art work affects the structure of exhibition space and in turn the releationship between the art work and the space it's self becomes important. In the process of exhibition space development, New York Modern Art Museum (MoMA) and Frankfurt Modern Art Museum (MMK) have been seen as examples a modern and postmodern museum. In this context, the physical and content of the art Works is in direct relation to the exhibition space, the structure of such spaces is can be examined by loking at two examples in terms of relationship between the artwork and the space it's self
