EVALUATION OF THE ELBPHILHARMONIE HAMBURG CONCERT BUILDING IN TERMS OF LOCATION, SPACE AND STRUCTURE

The relation of sound and architecture extends to the rituals performed in caves. As a way of conveying human feelings and thoughts, they have played music and sang songs with instruments for centuries. As of the 18th century, the use of halls designed for concert purposes only rose to prominence. In the process to date, performances have been implemeted in many different forms for the best transmission of the musical sound to the audience in the environment. Until the 20th century, concert halls were built with a simple and classical order and were the most common forms; Shoebox, fan and horseshoe hall forms. Nevertheless, modern music activation as well as the need to increase hall capacities have led to the quest for new forms and with the developments in the acoustic field, the "vineyard" hall form has been included in the design process. In this study, for the “Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Building”, which have concert hall in the form of vineyard; analyzes and evaluations was made in terms of urban-close environment and spatial context, construction technology and physical environment, foyer and hall design. As a result of the study, it has been determined that Elbphilharmonie Hamburg building is important in terms of form, function and construction technology as well as the building, which is integrated with the historical texture, stands out thanks to the transportation and trade advantages provided by the Elbe River.
