Franz Von Dombay’ın 1758-1810 Türkçe Atasözleri ve Deyimler Derlemesi

Manchester John Rylands Kütüphanesi’nde, 18. yüzyıl sonlarında Avusturya’nın Osmanlı sınır bölgesinde görev yapmış tercüman ve şarkiyatçı Franz Lorenz von Dombay tarafından hazırlanmış ve bugüne değin yayınlanmamış bir Türkçe atasözleri ve deyimler derlemesi mevcuttur. Toplam 440 adet sözü ve Latince çevirilerini içeren bu derleme, dönemin atasözleri ve deyimler dağarcığı hakkında oldukça zengin bir kaynaktır. Bu çalışmada, sözkonusu kaynak ve yazarı kısaca tanıtılacak ve derlemenin çeviriyazımı sunulacaktır

Franz von Dombay’s 1758-1810 Compilation of Turkish Proverbs and Idioms

There exists in the John Rylands Library, Manchester, a hitherto unpublished compilation of Turkish proverbs and idioms prepared by Franz Lorenz von Dombay, an Austro-Hungarian dragoman and orientalist who served on the Austro-Ottoman border in the late eighteenth century. This compilation, which includes 440 phrases along with their translation in Latin, provides fairly rich material on the proverb and idiom repertoire of its time. This study includes a brief introduction to this source and its author, and a full transcription of the compilation
