Bu makalede Altay dillerindeki üst giysi adları incelenecektir. Eski Türkçe ve Orta Türkçedeki biçimler başta olmak üzere Moğolca, Mançu-Tunguzca ve Korecedeki uygun şekillerle karşılaştırılmaktadır. Bu sözcüklerin kökünü ve etimolojisini açıklamak amaçlanmaktadır. Ayrıca çalışmada lengüistik faktörlerin yanı sıra ekstralengüistik faktörlere de dikkat çekilmektedir.

This paper discusses upper clothes-naming words in the Altaic languages. The paper takes the Old Turkic and Middle Turkic forms as basic and compares them with related forms in Mongolian, Tungus-Manchu and Korean. The lexicon addressed in the paper mainly includes words from common roots such as čekmen, čekmen, čapan, jalma, , jalma, , jalma,kepenek kepenek kepenek, kürk,gömlek. The goal of this paper is to explore roots and propose a number of etymologies for these words. In addition, this paper takes into consideration as extra linguistic factors as linguistic factors.
