Sensory Studies as a Multidisciplinary Research Field and Its Use in Tourism Research: A Bibliometric Analysis on Tourism Literature

The vast majority of researchers who have shaped history have brought different disciplines together and presented creative results.This paper has been written with the aim of conducting research on the use of the senses used in various fields in tourism researchby following this perspective and approach. First, a detailed survey of the use of senses in different disciplines such as Sociology,Anthropology, History, Psychology, and Philosophy has been carried out. Following the understanding of the relationship betweensenses and different disciplines, a literature review was conducted to determine the place of senses in tourism research. In this study,a Bibliometric Analysis Technique was employed to identify research areas where senses are used in different fields in tourism. Themain result of the research revealed that senses are not used in tourism, except marketing. In addition to this finding, concepts suchas sensory marketing, sensory branding and sensory tourist experience with the use of senses in tourism have begun to be used andnew approaches have been developed.
