Turizm ekonomik ve çevresel etkileri ile hizmet sağlayan küresel bir etkinliktir. Geniş bir bakış açısıyla, eğlenme ve dinlen-me için gerçekleştirilen turizm etkinlikleri genellikle “Kitle Turizmi” olarak tanımlanır. Son yıllarda kitle turizmine alternatif olarak ortaya çıkan turizm şekilleri de “Alternatif Turizm” olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Alternatif turizm biçimi olarak ekotu-rizm, 1980’li yıllarda ortaya çıkmış ve turizm endüstrisinin en hızlı büyüyen alt sektörü haline gelmiştir. Ekoturizm özellikle doğal ve kültürel alanlara yönelik yapılan bir etkinliktir. Katılımcılara bilgi veren deneyimler sağlarken, yerel halkların sosyo-ekonomik refahını geliştirir, doğal ve kültürel alanların korunması için ekonomik faydalar sağlar. Karapınar İlçesi ve yakın çevresi el değmemiş doğal özellikleri ve kültürel yapısı ile ekoturizm için önemli bir potansiyel sergilemektedir. Çalışmada; bu mevcut potansiyelin, doğal ve kültürel çevreye zarar vermeyecek ve ekonomik faydalar üretebi-lecek bir ekoturizm planlaması ile turizm sektörüne kazandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Karapınar İlçesi ve yakın çevresinin bazı ekoturizm etkinliklerine uygunluğu Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri, yerinde gözlem ve anket çalışmaları yardımıyla araştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak İlçe ve yakın çevresinde gerçekleştirilmesi uygun ekoturizm etkinliklerine yönelik uygun alan tespitleri yapılmış ve uygulama önerileri getirilmiştir.

By the economical and environmental effects, tourism is a global activity, providing the service sector. Generally, tourism activities for fun and rest are defined as Mass Tourism. In recent years some alternative forms of tourism has been appeared and called “Alternative Tourism”. Ecotourism as an alternative tourizm, appeared in 1980’s and became one of the most developing subsector of tourism industry. Ecotourizm is an activity which is especially proper to natural and cultural areas. While, it provides the knowledge and experiences of the tourists’ because of its informative form, also improves the socioeco-nomic well-being of the local community and has economical benefits to conserve the natural and cultural areas. Karapınar province and its vicinity has a great potential with its wilderness natural properties and cultural structure. In this study, it is aimed to use these areas in tourism sector and produce economical benefits by an ecotourism planning which has no detorior effect to natural and cultural areas. The convenience of Karapınar province and its vicinity for some ecotour-ism activities were searched with Geographical Information Systems. As a result, suitable areas for applicable selected activities were determined for Karapınar province and its vicinity and some applications were offered.
