Isolation of Arcobacter spp. From Poultry Carcasses Put on Consumption in Kayseri
In this study, the presence of Arcobacter spp. was examinated in carcasses of chicken, turkey and quail sold different markets in Kayseri. While carcasses samples of chickens included whole chicken rump, breast, wing and little rump; samples of turkeys included breast and wing; samples of quail was used as a whole in this study. For this aim; 50 chickens, 50 turkeys and 50 quails carcasses samples were collected from 5 markets in Kayseri. After each sample was washed in sterile distilled water and inoculated at 30°C under microaerobic conditions in Arcobacter Enrichment Broth (AEB). Membrane filtration technique was applied to washing liquid by using cellulose acetate membrane filter which has 0.45 µm pore diamater and was put on blood agar (BA). In this research, 5/9 (% 25) chickens samples, 4/10 (% 20) rumps samples, 5/9 (% 25) breast samples, 2/10 (% 10) wings samples, 4/12 (% 20) drumstick samples and from turkeys 1/25 (% 4) wings samples and 1/25 (% 4) breast samples and 4/50 (% 8) quail samples which is investigated as a whole Arcobacter spp. was isolated. The study revealed that fresh poultry carcasses was contaminated with Arcobacter spp. Sold in Kayseri when considered that Arcobacter spp. Was isolated from many disease in addition to human enteritis. It was concluded that Arcobacter spp. Might be an important risk factor as far as public health is concerned
