IMPACTS OF COVID-19 ON TOURISM FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TOURISM RESEARCHERS

Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected tourism activities worldwide. Starting from the pandemic period, many researchers continue to evaluate these effects from different perspectives. The impact of the pandemic on the tourism industry is analysed with various variables including economic, social, cultural and health. Most of the studies consist of researchers' predictions, secondary data and tourists' evaluations. However, the number of studies examining the effects of Covid-19 on the tourism sector by tourism researchers in the first months of the pandemic is very few. As representatives of the academic aspect of tourism, the evaluations of the predictions of academics are very important. Therefore, the main purpose of the research is to examine the evaluations of tourism academics on the effects of the pandemic on the tourism industry. Research data were obtained from 234 participants in April 2020 through an online survey form. According to the results of the research; it is seen that the evaluations of tourism academics consist of a total of seven dimensions, one of which is the dependent variable of the study, "general opinion" dimension; six of which are the independent variables of the study, "destination management", "product-based preference", "health-based preference", "legal regulation", "marketing" and "employment". As a result, after two years, it could be seen that the predictions of the scientists had been realised to a large extent.
