Bellek Y?levselli?i Anketi (Memory FunctioningQuestionnaire; BYA) yeti?kinlerin günlük bellek i?levleriniölçmek amacyyla geli?tirilmi? bir ankettir. Anketin tarama vetakip amaçly kullanylabilece?i dü?ünülmektedir.

Validity and Reliability of Turkish Version of the Memory Functioning

Objectives: Subjective memory impairment (SMI) refersto conditions in which people complain of memoryproblems despite intact cognition. Subjective memorycomplaints (SMCs) are experienced by a large proportionof middle-aged and older adults, with some estimatesbeing as high as 50%. One of the purposes of studyingthe relations between subjective cognitive complaintsand neuropsychological tasks is to clarify the assertionthat subjective cognitive complaints are a risk factor fordementia. Subjective cognitive failures are associatedwith lower hippocampal volume, even in subjects without objective cognitive impairment. Although somestudies concluded that subjective memory complaints byhealthy people were not in parallel with the results ofobjective neuropsychological tasks or were not early evidence of future cognitive deficits, some other studiesconcluded the opposite. The Memory FunctioningQuestionnaire (MFQ) has been used to investigate several major questions on the usefulness of assessing selfappraisals of memory functioning. The aim of this studyis to investigate the validity and reliability of MemoryFunctioning Questionnaire developed by Gilewski et al.in 1990 that assesses memory perception in Turkish population. Method: The study group consisted of 112healthy volunteers. The reliability of the MFQ was evaluated by testing its internal consistency and test-retestreliability. Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficients of the MFQwere 0.859 and0.938, respectively. Conclusion: According to the present study the MFQ Turkish version showed to be validand reliable. The questionnaire can be used for screeningand follow up.
