Altın Orda siyasi yapısının bir ürünü olarak Kafkasların kuzeyindeki bozkırlarda ortaya çıkan Nogaylar, çok uzun süre sözlü bir edebiyat geleneğini korumuşlardır. Ozanların temsil ettiği bu dönemin ardından yazılı edebiyatın ilk ürünleri görünmeye başlar. Bunların çoğu Sovyet döneminde yazılmış olup sosyalist anlayıştadır.

The Nogays, a Turkic people, who appeared in the steppes north of the Caucasus, as a sub-product of the Golden Horde political structure, kept their tradition of oral literature. After this long period, represented by ozans (wandering minstrels), first products of the written Nogay literature started to appear. These were written mostly in the Soviet era, and have socialistic colour.
