Amaç: Preoperatif intravenöz piyelografi ve baryumlu kolon grafisi incelemelerinin over kanserlerindeki rolünü ve değerini araştırmak. Materyal- Metod: Bu çalışma Ocak 2009– Ocak 2010 tarihleri arasında Karadeniz Teknik üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Kliniğinde retrospektif olarak yapıldı. Çalışmaya ultrasonografi bulguları over kanseri için şüpheli sayılan hastalar alındı.
Aim: To investigate the role and the value of preoperative intravenous pyelography and barium colonography examinations in ovarian cancers. Material-method: This study was conducted retrospectively in Karadeniz Technical University between January 2009 and January 2010. Patients who have ultrasound findings suspecting an ovarian cancer were enrolled into the study. Pathology, intravenous pyelogram and barium graphy results were documented. Malign and benign ovarian mass groups were compared by using the findings of intravenous pyelograpy and colon graphy. In statistical analysis, Student t and Mann Whitney tests were used appropriately. A p value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: A total of 111 patients had laparotomy with an indication of pelvic mass (suspected ovarian malignancy). The patients’ age and gravida were 52.4±12.6 and 4.3±2.4, respectively. Postoperative diagnoses were ovarian cancer and benign ovarian mass in 26 and 85 patients, respectively. The mean ages of the patients were 55.8±14.6 in ovarian cancers and 51.3± 11.9 in benign masses. In 84.6% of the patients with ovarian cancer and 88.2% of the patients with benign ovarian tumors, there was a pathological finding in the intravenous pyelogram. In 15.4% of the patients with ovarian cancer and 36,4% of the patients with benign ovarian tumors, there was a pathological finding in the colon graphy examinations. However, pathological finding frequencies did not differe between groups. Conclusion: Intravenous pyelogram and colon barium graphy have a low sensitivity and specificity to differentiate the ovarian masses as malign or benign.
