ANTERIOR ABDOMINAL WALL BLOCKS AS A SOURCE OF INFORMATION IN A SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORK

Objectives: Although YouTube is widely used as a source of information, there is no regulation used toanalyze the quality of videos. The aim of our study is to evaluate the quality and content of videos aboutAnterior Abdominal Wall Blocks on YouTube.Methods: On YouTube, a website, a search was made between May 01-31, 2020 using the keywords"anterior abdominal wall blocks", "rectus sheath block", "ilioinguinal/iliohipogastric nerve block", and"transversus abdominis plan (TAP) block". An evaluation of understandability was performed using theSuitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) test for the first 100 video materials. Educational content in eachvideo was assessed by the presence/absence of 11 factors. These factors were determined based on thereference book on the subject by Clinical Anesthesia (18). User engagement metrics were recorded foreach video as follows: 1) number of video views, 2) likes, 3) dislikes, and 4) comments.Results: When the videos were evaluated by the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) score, 58(58%) videos were in the ‘insufficient' group, 25 (25%) videos were in the 'sufficient' group and 17 (17%)videos were in the 'superior' group. There was a weak positive correlation between the SAM score and thenumber of views, likes, dislikes, and comments. There was a strong positive correlation between theSuitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) score of the videos and the video duration. When the medicalcontents of the videos were examined, it was found that sufficient information was given in terms of thetype of approach, and demonstration of dermatomes and anatomical landmarks, but highly insufficientinformation was given in terms of monitoring, sterilization and needle/catheter use.Conclusion: We think that an institutional assessment system that provides content and quality assuranceof medical information for both patients and healthcare personnel should be established on Youtube.
