Moving Techniques For Traditional Buildings As An Architectural Preservation Method

With the growth of urbanization and the economy, new ideas andtechnologies have been becoming more of an issue today in thepreservation of the cultural traditional buildings. Moving has been ararely preferred method in the preservation of historical buildings, andit should not be preferred unless there is a serious necessity in the fieldof architectural preservation. This method is the process of moving ahistorical building to a suitable predefined area by taking it from itsoriginal location and from its surroundings when it is impossible topreserve the building where it stands. When moving processes carriedout until today are considered, it has been observed that there are twobasic methods used for moving buildings: a) moving intact, b) partly ortotally disassembling.In this study, the techniques for preservation used when the historicalbuildings have to be relocated to a different place from their originallocations due to the necessity, have been examined. By evaluatingmoving examples both in the world and in Turkey a comparison has beenmade between advantages and disadvantages of the method.
