Ibn Al-Jawzi’s book, entitled Saydu’l-Hâtir (597/1201), is one of the important books written about moral educational thoughts. This book’s title expresses the purpose of its authorship. As Ibn Al-Jawzi explained in the introduction, his goal in writing this book was that a group of thoughts and observations came into his mind and he considered that it would be useful to write them down. The book contains a number of moral principles and rules on various topics related to educational psychology and ethical aspects and, more especially with regard to the ethics used by scholars and students. In this book, Ibn Al-Jawzi expresses, also, based on his own experiences, his opinions on a set of behavioral, educational and devotional aspects. The book deals, also, with social analyzes of different situations faced by Muslims generally and by scientists and students in particular. These analyzes include, also, advice and recommendations. In addition to his psychological and moral educational views which are again based on his own experiences, Ibn Al-Jawzi gives his opinions on some of the religious aspects related to a small group of doctrinal and juristic matters.
