Türk adının tarihte ilk defa geçtiği devlet olan Göktürk Devleti her ne kadar geçmişte hak ettiği önemi göremese de günümüzde daha tanınır ve bilinir durumdadır. Bilge Kağan, Kül Tegin ve Tonyukuk başta olmak üzere yüzlerce yazıt, Orta Asya’nın kalbinde, Türklüğün en eski yazıtları olmaları münasebetiyle tarihi açıdan büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bu kitap, Türk tarihi ve kültürü açısından büyük önem arz eden bu yazıtları esas alarak, Göktürk tarihini, Göktürk devlet yapısını ve kitabeleri anlatmaktadır. Kitabın yazarı Prof.Dr. Ahmet Taşağıl’ın, Göktürk Devleti’nin hüküm sürdüğü zaman dilimine ve coğrafyaya hâkim olması, kitabın önemini arttırmaktadır. Yazar bu eserde, hem Göktürk tarihini güzel incelemiş, hem de yazıtları Bilge Kağan’ın fikir yapısıyla iyi tahlil etmiştir. Genel Türk Tarihine hâkim bir yazar olan Taşağıl, okuyucuyu boğmadan güzel bir anlatım ile kitabelerle ilgili bilgileri aktarmıştır. Kitap, üç bölümden meydana gelmiştir. Birinci bölümde I. Göktürk Devleti, ikinci bölümde II. Göktürk Devleti, üçüncü bölümde ise anıtlar anlatılmıştır. Ayrıca kitabın sonunda anıtların fotoğrafları da kitaba eklenmiştir.

The Empire of Göktürk is the first empire that used the name of Türk in the history. Hundreds of incriptions, that are on the Central Asia, are crucial for Turkish history, like Bilge Kağan, Kül Tegin ve Tonyukuk inscriptions. This book, is narrating history of Göktürk, state structure and inscriptions by basing on these instiptions, which are crucial for Turkish history and culture. The author of the book Prof.Dr. Ahmet Taşağıl, is a master about the timeline of the Empire of Göktürk and its geographical area and these factors make the book more important. In the book the author, not only write the history of the Empire of Göktürk, but also analysized the mindset of the Bilge Kağan, by basing on inscriptions. The author of the book Taşağıl, is proffessor in the general Turkish History and writes the inscriptions by uncerebrally. The book consist of three parts. The book arrate us, in the first part The Empire of I. Göktürk, secand part The Empire of II. Göktürk and the last part inscriptions. Alsoat the end of the book, there are the photos of the inscriction.
