Bu kuramsal çalışma, öğrenmenin biyolojik, psikolojik ve bilişsel temellerine dayalı olarak, yabancı dil öğreniminde/öğretiminde, masalları da içine alan, öykü metinlerinin kullanılmasının öğrenmeye katkısını tartışmaktadır. Anlatı metinleri, bağdaşıklığı yüksek, dinleyici veya okuyucunun zihninde sürekli olarak “Kim kime ne yapacak? ve “Bundan sonra ne olacak?”sorularını canlı tutan metinler olması ve hem yapısal, hem içerik bakımından yeniden yapılandırılabilirlik özellikleri nedeniyle öğrenmeyi hem kolay hem kalıcı kılacaktır.

This theoretical study discusses the benefits of using narrative texts, including fairy tales and short stories, in teaching a foreign language, basing its argument on biological, cognitive and psychological foundations of learning. When the language input is given in a closed and coherent context such as stories, the storage, retrieval and use of input will be easier by the mind/brain since the new linguistic input is likely to establish connections with already existing concepts in long term memory. Narrative texts generate a particular interest, thus motivation, in the learners posing the questions “Who does what to whom?” and “What is going to happen next?”. Consequently, when stories are used to teach a foreign language, they foster learning significantly
