A statistical study of pulsating stars. First paper: The variable stars in a Centauri

A large number of the variables in w Çent, has been analysed by the autocorrelation and subsequent power series method. In th a t way the intensities of the fundam ental and of the various overtones are ob- tained. Subject of th is study is especially the relative in ten sity A(2) of the first overtone. For th e various types of cluster type variables and for the few 8 Cephei sta rs the values of A(2) are plotted against th e corresponding logarithm of the period. From the resulting diagram the difference betvveen the Bailey sub type c on one side and the sub-types a and e on the other sides is evident from the difference in th e level of A(2). There is an indi- cation th a t w ithin the different sub-types different sublevels may occur.
