Smart Grids and Smart Cities - A Systematic Mapping Study

Smart grid and smart city concepts are very popular, exciting and interrelated research, development andapplication areas in the 21 st century. Hence, these research activities have become important task from thescientific community, practitioners, and policy makers. Smart grid allows using different energy sourcesmore effectively, reliable, and sustainable. Smart city applications makes human life easier and morecomfortable, by getting economy, governance, environment, living, healthcare, energy and mobilitysmarter. This paper presents a systematic analysis of published literature related to smart grid and smartcity studies between 2014 and 2017. 6975 papers (4340 conference proceedings, 57 book chapters, 2578articles) have been considered in total. The papers are classified with according to their focus, research andcontribution type. A systematic mapping study is performed according to this classification. Then, recentinvestments and future trends have discussed.
