COVID-19 Pandemisinin Ortodontik Tedavi Gören Hastaların Kaygı Düzeyine Etkisi

Amaç: Bu çalışma, koronavirüs salgını ve karantinanın ortodontik randevular üzerindeki etkisini ve hastaların devam eden ortodontik tedavileri ile ilgili kaygılarını değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu kesitsel çalışmaya bir üniversitenin ortodonti kliniğinde aktif ortodontik tedavi görmekte olan 15-30 yaş arası toplam 300 birey dahil edilmiştir. Hastaların koronavirüs pandemisiyle ilgili anksiyete düzeyleri, randevuya gelme istekleri hakkında çevrimiçi bir anket ve Durumluk-Sürekli Kaygı Ölçeği (STAI-S ve STAI-T) yapılmıştır. Tanımlayıcı istatistikler, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, ki-kare, bağımsız örneklem t testleri ve Spearman korelasyon katsayısı, P <.05 anlamlılık düzeyi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular: Anketi ve ölçekleri toplam 300 birey (187 kadın ve 113 erkek; ortalama yaş: 19.78 ± 7,13 yıl) yanıtlamıştır. Hastaların neredeyse tamamı karantina kurallarına uymaktaydı, hastaların %45,7'si sakin, %41'i endişeliydi.

Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Anxiety of Patients Receiving Orthodontic Treatment

Objective: To assess the coronavirus outbreak and the impact of quarantine on orthodontic appointments, and the anxiety of patients regarding their ongoing orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: Patients (the age range of 15 to 30 years) from a university orthodontic clinic that were receiving active orthodontic treatment were included in this cross-sectional study. An online survey about patients’ anxiety about the coronavirus pandemic, willingness to attend an appointment, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S and STAI-T) scale were conducted. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, chi-square, independent samples t-tests, and Spearman’s correlation coefficient were performed with significance set at P < .05. Results: A total of 300 individuals (187 females and 113 males; mean age: 19.78 ± 7.13 years) answered the survey and STAI-S and -T. Almost all patients respected the quarantine rules, 45.7% of patients were calm and 41% were anxious. No difference was found between genders regarding anxiety level and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on orthodontic treatment (P > .05). STAI-S and STAI-T levels were higher in females than males (P < .05). There were correlations between STAI-S and STAI-T levels and the level of anxiety/impact on orthodontic treatment (P < .05). Conclusion: Patients who want to attend an orthodontic appointment had a lower anxiety level than others. The coronavirus pandemic and quarantine had an impact on orthodontic treatment and the anxiety level of patients.
