Utilization of Bioactive Glasses in Dentistry

Bioactive glasses, which have been used in orthopedics for many years, have also found wide application in dentistry in recent years. Developed with the thought that bioinert materials can prevent fibrous encapsulation, bioactive glasses are materials that precipitate hydroxyapatite in contact with body fluids. In addition, properties such as gene expression and stimulation of angiogenesis and antiseptic effects have increased the interest in bioactive glasses. In dentistry; it is used in bone regeneration, as a mineralizing agent and in air abrasion. It has been also found used as a pulp coating material, additive to restorative materials and implant coating material. This review aims to provide an up-to-date perspective on the use of bioactive glasses in dentistry today.
