Afşin-Elbistan kömür havzası çeşitli sektörlerden oluşmakta ancak şu anda sadece Kışlaköy sektöründe açık ocak çalışmaları yapılmaktadır. Bu sektörün işletilebilir rezervi 578 milyon ton, projenin yıllık üretim kapasitesi 20 milyon ton, besleyeceği santralın üreteceği güç 1360 MW'dir. Bu yazıda sektörün jeolojisi ve hidrojeolojisi, projeye göre planlama kriterleri ve kömür üretim miktarı belirtilmekte, kullanılan makina ve ekipman tanıtılmaktadır.

Although there are several sectors in Afşin-Elbistan coal basin, today the mining activities are carried out only in Kışlaköy sector. The minable reserve of the sector is 578 million tons, the annual production capacity of the project is 20 million tons and the capacity of the power station fed by this project is 1360 MW. In this paper, geology and hydrogeology of the sector, planning factors of the project and the amount of annual coal production are stated and the machinery and equipment used is briefly described.
