Bu çalışmada, Gümüş Çağ ozanlarından Publius Papinius Statius’un, çeşitli konularda yazılmış otuz iki küçük şiirden oluşan beş kitaplık Silvae adlı yapıtının ikinci kitabından yedinci şiiri ele alınacaktır. Öncelikle Lucanus’un hayatı hakkında Klasik dönem anlatılarıyla desteklenmiş bilgilere yer verilecektir. İncelediğimiz şiir bir doğum günü şiiridir. Ancak ölmüş birinin doğum günü için yazılmış olması onu sıradan bir şiir olmaktan öteye götürür. Ayrıca bir ozanın ve Roma şiirinin nitelikleri hakkında yazarın görüşlerini içermesi bakımından önemlidir. Çalışmada şiirde değinilen konular yorumlanmış ve anlatılanları desteklemek amacıyla şiirin çevirisi metnin sonunda verilmiştir.

This study aims to translate and succinctly examine the seventh poem from the second book of Silvae which was compiled of five complete books inclusive of thirty two short poems on various subject matters authored by one of the prominent poets of the Silver Age, Publius Papinius Statius. This study will prioritize the life of Lucanus supported by the data from the Classical Era accounts.The above-mentioned seventh poem was begotten as a particular usage of “birthday poem” (Genethliacon). What makes the seventh poem unique compared to the other poems is the fact that the poem was written with tribute to a dead person. It also touches upon two significant subjects: A Poet and Roman Poetry.  In this work, the relevant subjects from the poem is analysed and also, the entire poem translation is presented at the end of the research in order to synthesize the above-mentioned accounts.
