Memleketimizin florası ile ilgili eserlerde ve yay ınlarda, Türkiyede yetiş tiğine dair bir kayda rastlamadığımı z Acorus calamus L. bitki sine Sapanca (Adapazar ı ) ve Yeniçağa (Bolu) göllerinde tesadüf ettik. Her iki yerden ald ığımız örnekler mayıs-haziran aylar ı nda çiçek vermekle beraber, bitkilerin meyva ba ğlamadı klarnu ve her iki örne ğin de triploit (2n =36) oldu ğunu saptadık. Ekimde toplayıp kuruttuğumuz rizom ve köklerde, volümetrik metotla, rizomlarda % 2 .4-2 .7 ve köklerde % 1 .6-2 miktar ı nda uçucu yağ bulduk. Rizonuar, İstanbul iökçülerinde eğir, eğer, hazanbel adları altında satılmakta ve halk aras ı nda prostat hipertrofisine kar şı tavsiye edilmektedir.

Acorus calamus L., whose presence in Turkey has not been recorded in related floras, grows wild on the shores of Sapanca (Adapazar ı) and Yeniçağa (Bolu) lakes. The plants flower in May-June, but don't develop fruits. Both specimens are triploit with 2n=36. Rhizomes and roots, collected in October and dried separately, contain respectively 2.4-2.7 % and 1.6-2 % volatile oil, determined by volumetric method. The rhizomes are sold in Istanbul under the names of e ğir, eğer, hazanbel and used in folk medicine in the treatment of prostat ı c hyperplasia.
