Eimeria türleri belirlenen dışkıların 56 (%38.62) tanesinde her iki Eimeria türü birlikte bulunmuştur. Güvercinlerin hiç birinde Cryptosporidium spp. ookistlerine rastlanmamıştır. Helmintlerden Capillaria spp. %18.62, Ascaridia columbae %11.03, Heterakis spp. %6.20 ve Syngamus spp. %4.84 oranında belirlenmiştir.

Prevalence of coccidia and helminth species in domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica) in Van

This study was performed to investigate coccidia and helminth species in domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica) in Van district. The fecal samples were microscopically examined by means of flotation method using Sheather’s saturated sugar solution for Eimeria oocysts and helminth eggs and the modified acid-fast staining method for Cryptosporidium oocysts. Of 145 pigeons examined, 98 (67.58%) and 42 (28.96%) were positive for Eimeria oocysts and helminth eggs, respectively. After oocysts in the positive fecal samples were sporulated with 2.5% potassium dichromate, of the 145 pigeons, 80 (55.17%) and 74 (51.03%) were found to be infected E.columbarum, and E.labbeana, respectively. In addition, 56 (38.62%) samples were positive for both Eimeria species. Cryptosporidium oocysts were not observed in the faecal samples of domestic pigeons. Capillaria spp., Ascaridia columbae, Heterakis spp. and Syngamus spp. were found in 18.62%, 11.03, 6.20 and 4.84, respectively.
