An Investigation of the Rleationships Between Personality Dimensions and the Performance of Sales Representatives

The study investigates the degree to which dimensions of the 5 - factor model of personality are related to performance. Although different personality theorists have used different terms to describe the important dimensions of personality, it is possible to organize these dimensions in terms of 5 broad dimensions of personality. Big five personality dimensions can be described as Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness to Change. In prior researches, authors hypothesized that extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness are positively and neuroticism is negatively correlated with individual performance. Conscientiousness showed consistent relations with all job performance criteria for all occupational groups. Extraversion is a valid predictor for occupations involving social interaction. For the remaining personality dimensions, the correlations varied by the occupational group.
