Yoğun bakım ünitesinde sağlık personelinin el yıkama alışkanlıkları

Bu çalışmanın amacı, yoğun bakımda çalışan sağlık per-sonelinin hasta izlemi sırasında el yıkama alışkanlıklarını belirleyerek incelemektir. Tanımlayıcı tip gözlemsel araştırmada; Sema Hastanesi Yoğun Bakım Ünitesi’nde, haftada 2 gün, 2’şer saat olmak üzere 6 aylık süre içerisinde toplam olarak 6240 dakikalık gözlem yapılmıştır. Araştırma boyunca, el yıkamanın gerekli olduğu durumlar ve bu durumlarda el yıkamanın gerçekleştirilip gerçekleştirilmediğiprospektif olarak gözlenmiştir. Ünite çalışanları çalışma hakkında bilgilendirilmemiştir. Tüm sağlık personelinin el yıkama oranı%73 olarak bulundu. Handwashing habit of health care workers in a intensive care unit

The aim of this study was, to determine and to identify the handwashing habits of intensive care workers during patient care. This study took place in the intensive care unit located in Sema Hospital’s Surgical Division. Handwashing oppurtunities were detected and observed handwashing was recorded. The handwashing habits of health care workers were monitored for over 6240 min., during 2 hour per day, 2 days per week, for an observation period of six months. The unit’s employees were not informed about the study. The intensive care workers were found to have compliant handwashing habits 73% of the time. Handwashing compliance for physicians, nurses and other health care workers were 56%, 86% and 72% respectively (p<0.05). In general, the handwashing habits of employees were found to be satisfactory. Educational programs and feedback control may be useful to improve the handwashing habits of employees, especially for the physicians. Frequent hand-washing among health care workers is of the upmost importance in the prevention of nasocomial infection, a serious threat to patient health.
