Romatoid artrit hastalık aktivitesinde tartışmalı belirteç: Ortalama platelet hacmi

Amaç: Çalışmamızda amacımız Romatoid Artrit (RA) hastalarında hastalık aktivitesi ve inflamatuar belirteçler ile ortalama platelet hacmi (MPV) değerlerinin ilişkisini araştırmaktır Materyal ve Metot: Çalışmaya ilimiz Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Romatoloji polikliniğinde takipli 86 kayıtlı RA hastası retrospektif olarak alındı. RA hastalık aktivitesini değerlendirmek için DAS 28 skorları hesaplandı. Klinik sorgulamada hastaların şikayetlerinin başlama süreleri, tanı süreleri, tanıda gecikme süreleri, klinik remisyon varlığı, kullandığı DMARD sayıları, aile öyküsü varlığı not edildi. Laboratuar değerlendirmesi olarak lökosit ve platelet sayısı, MPV, eritrosit sedimantasyon hızı (ESH), C reaktif protein (CRP) değerleri kayıt edildi. Mean platelet volume: A controversial marker of disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis

Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation between mean platelet volume (MPV) and inflammatory markers in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Material and Methods: The study was designed in the Sakarya University Faculty of Medicine Department of Rheumatology. Eighty-six patients with RA were enrolled retrospectively into the study. We evaluated DAS 28 for disease activity. The following clinical data were recorded (the time elapsed first clinical symptoms, the time passed after diagnosis, presence of regular medication, presence of clinical remission). Laboratory assessments included complete blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP) and MPV. Variables were correlated with Pearson correlation test using SPSS 20.0. p value <0.05 was considered to indicate a significant difference. Results: Mean DAS 28 scores of the patients was 3.14±0.57. There was a moderately positive correlation between DAS 28 scores and ESR, CRP (respectively, p:0.000, r:0.603; p:0.000, r:0.640). There was a weakly positive correlation between DAS 28 scores and platelet counts (p:0.000, r:0.403). But we did not find any correlation between DAS 28 scores and MPV values (p<0.05, r:-0.098). Discussions: MPV did not correlate with disease activity in RA. MPV assessment can be one of the important research topics to be investigated with high disease activity in RA patients.
