Obezite parametrelerinin obstrüktif uyku apnesi üzerine etkisi
Amaç: Obstrüktif Uyku Apne Sendromu (OSAS) dünyadaki obezite epidemisi ile beraber sıklığı artan, ciddi mortalite ve morbiditeye yol açan önemli bir hastalıktır. Bu çalışmada amacımız uyku laboratuarımızda obstrüktif uyku apne sendromu tanısı alan hastalarda boyun, bel, kalça çevresi, beden kitle indeksi, kan lipid profili gibi obezite ile ilişkili parametreler ile OSAS ciddiyeti arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Materyal ve metot: Çalışmaya uyku laboratuarımızda yatan yaş ortalaması 51,2±1,2 yıl olan 27 kadın, 73 erkek hasta dahil edilmiştir. Hastalar Apne Hipopne İndeksi (AHİ) değerlerine göre (AHİ
Influence of obesity-related parameters on the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is an important disorder with an increasing incidence worldwide, with high rates of mortality and morbidity. In this study we aimed to demonstrate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) severity and obesity-related parameters. Material and Method: Twenty seven women and 73 men (mean age 51.2±1.2 years old ) were enrolled into the study. According to the Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI), patients were classified as follows: AHI<5 simple snorer, 5≥AHİ<15 mild, 15≥AHI>30 moderate and AHI≥30 severe OSAS. Results: Simple snoring was found in 14 patients, whereas mild-moderate-severe OSAS was found in 27 - 23 -36 patients respectively. Body mass index (BMI), neck, waist, hip circumferences and waist/hip ratio were measured and high waist and neck circumferences were found statistically significant related with the severity of OSAS. On the other hand there was no correlation between the parameters and, position or REM dependent OSAS. Conclusion: Central obesity and increased neck circumference increase the OSAS severity, hence the right diagnosis and suggesting the treatment options is of important value to these patients.
