Amerikan Medyasında İran’da Kadın Hareketleri: Ahmedinejad Dönemi

Bu çalışma, Mahmud Ahmedinejad’ın cumhurbaşkanlığı döneminde (03 Ağustos 2005-03 Ağustos 2013) İran’da gerçekleşen ve kadınların aktif rol aldığı toplumsal hareketlerin Amerikan medyasındaki sunumlarını oryantalizm, post-kolonyalizm ve post-yapısalcı teorilerin araçları vasıtasıyla incelemeyi amaçlıyor. Çalışma boyunca, söz konusu dönemde iki önemli Amerikan gazetesi, The New York Times ve The Washington Post’ta yer alan haberler incelenmiştir. Haberleri incelerken ise özellikle Edward Said’in “Oryantalizm” üzerine olan düşünceleri ve bu konuda çizdiği teorik çerçeve kullanılmıştır. Bunun yanında Stuart Hall’un yorumlarıyla birlikte Michel Foucault’nun bilgi-iktidar ve söylem üzerine düşünceleri ve Chandra Talpade Mohanty’nin Batı’da yapılan feminist çalışmalar üzerine olan eleştirileri de teorik arka planı oluşturmak amacıyla kullanılmıştır. Son tahlilde iki gazetenin de İran’daki kadın hareketlerini haberleştirirken kullandıkları ortak söylemsel temalar olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bu anlamda iki gazete arasında söz konusu hareketleri ele alma biçimleri açısından anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilememiştir.

Iranian Women’s Movements in American Media: Ahmadinejad Era

This study aims to analyze the representations of social movements in Iran that women had an effective role during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad era (03 August 2005-03 August 2013) on the U.S. Media by the tools of orientalism, post-colonialism and post-structuralism. News covered by two significant American newspapers, The New York Times and The Washington Post are searched through during the study. During the research Edward Said’s conceptualization and his theoretical framework of “Orientalism” has been widely used. Furthermore, Michel Foucault’s thoughts on knowledge-power and discourse with Chandra Talpade Mohanty’s critics on feminist studies alongside with Stuart Hall’s comments are followed in the purpose of building the theoretical background. In the last evaluation, the inference is that there are common discursive themes of these two newspapers for covering the women’s movements in Iran. In this context, there is not a significant difference identified between these two newspapers on considering the mentioned movements above.
