Political Participation and Democracy in Egypt: Social Mobilization, Political Communication and Modernization After 1952 Revolution

While Egypt could by no means be called a demoqatic country, somesteps have been taken in that direction. In this article, I will look at thosechanges, which occurred immediately following the Revolution of 1952.Political pafiicipation among the Egyptian rural population increasedsignificantly in the years following the July 26, 1952 Revolurion led byGamal Abdel Nasser, and political participation has become a key factor inEgyptian politics. There are several reasons for the growing interest inpolitics in Egypt, including changes in government institutions forparticipation, growing feelings of nationalism, significant educationalreforms, and communications improvements.
