Banana Weeds, Control, Relationship with Nematodes and Effects of Irrigation on Weed Management in Banana Growing Fields

In recent years, due to the fact that bananas are an economic source of income in our country, there has been an increase in the cultivated areas in the Mediterranean Region. With the prominence of banana growing, plant protection problems have also increased. Unmanaged weeds which play a major role in the reduction of yield, and the producer's unconscious approach to weed management in banana cultivation have constituted the purpose of this review. In bananas, weeds, if not dealt with, may cause harmful nematodes to become the main pest by allowing their life cycle to be completed in addition to their ability to be suitable hosts for plant parasitic nematodes. Especially with the global warming, the need for water has increased the competitiveness of weeds, and in case of not controlling weeds, it has prevented the necessary needs for the development of the banana by becoming partner of food and water applications. In this review, the importance of irrigation in terms of weeds, weed control methods and the relationship of weeds with nematodes in banana were evaluated.
