Bu makalede Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi bünyesinde yer alan coğrafya bölümünün Türkiye’de coğrafya biliminin ve coğrafya literatürünün gelişmesindeki rolü ve önemi ele alınacaktır. Makalede öncelikle kuruluş ve yapılanma dönemi (1935-1960) ele alınmış, daha sonra ise bu dönemde görev alan akademisyenlerin bilimsel faaliyetlerine ve yayınlarına yer verilmiştir. Makalenin ikinci kısmında DTCF Coğrafya Araştırmaları Dergisi’nin Yayın Hayatına Başlaması Dönemi (1961-1980) ele alınmış ve bu dönemde dergide yapılan yayınların liste ve içeriklerine yer verişmiştir. Son kısımda ise DTCF Coğrafya Araştırmaları Dergisi’nin 1980 sonrasına ışık tutularak bu dönemde yapılmış çalışmalara yer verilmiştir.

This article will embrace the role and the importance of the geography department, located within the Faculty of Language, History-Geography, on the development of geographical studies and literature in Turkey. In the first part of the article, the establishment and structuring period (1935-1960) is discussed, and then the scientific activities and publications of the academicians who took part in this period are included. In the second part of the article, the period, when DTCF Journal of Geography Research began to be published (1961-1980) is covered and the lists and contents of the publications in the journal during this period are included. The last part sheds light to the DTCF Journal of Geography Research after 1980s by considering the developments and the studies within the journal.
