EXAMINING SOCIAL STUDIES QUESTIONS ON NATIONAL TEST IN TURKEY IN TERMS OF REVIZED BLOOM’S TAXANOMY
Turkey has changed constructivist educational approach instead of the already applied behaviorist educational approach in 2004.This applied educational approach includes high-level cognitive skills and knowledge. These skills are critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and reflecting what they learn. 2004-2005 social studies curriculum which is based upon constructivist educational approach covers students’ skills such as these high-level cognitive processes. The present study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the distribution of 2008-2010 high-stake test of Social Studies Course by grade and by year depending upon cognitive levels of Revized Bloom’s Taxanomy (RBT) with an assumption that social studies curriculum is reflected in the exams. This study was carried out in an attempt to determine how 2004-2005 curriculum ensures the improvement of highlevel skills. The study was conducted through qualitative case study method. Document analysis was used as a data collection tool. Placementexam (SBS) questions used in the study were obtained from the Ministry of Education General Directorate of Educational Technology the Department of Examination Services. Instead of this exam, there has been in a different exam, centered secondary school entrance (TEOG), just taken by 8thgrade inTurkey since November 2013. Therefore, we have selected the SBS questions as it consists of different levels such as 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and this exam can show us how different grades have changed in years. We also hoped to analyze that this exam can be best example to observe different grades and how constructivist approach in social studies curriculum is reflected on the questions. The data were subjected to two-stage expert opinions. The research analysis has been conducted through STATA 14 program descriptive statistical methods
