THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MATHEMATICS TEACHING ANXIETY AND TEACHING STYLE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

In this study, we aimed to determine the relationship between teaching mathematics anxiety and teaching style preferences of primary teachers. Research was carried out with 344 primary teachers who were on duty in Nevşehir. In the study, the relational model was used. The data were obtained using research Teaching Mathematics Anxiety Scale and Teaching Styles Scale. Primarily, structural equation modelling was established in the analysis of data to reveal the model reflects the relationship between mathematics teaching anxiety and teaching style. Then correlation analysis was made on SPSS which is data analysis program to see the relationship between sub-factors contained in each scale. Finally, the average scale scores in teaching styles were examined to determine which they prefer more teaching style of the primary teacher in the analysis of the data. Primary teachers prefer the most expert, facilitator and delegator teaching style on the analyze of the results. The teacher preferred authority and personal model moderately. The existence of the relationship between mathematics teaching anxiety and teaching style has been confirmed by the established structural equation modelling. The relationship between mathematics education anxiety and teaching style was found that negative and significant (r = .33). When viewed in the sub-factor of mathematics teaching anxiety and teaching style correlation; a significant negative relationship moderately was found between student-centered teaching style (personal, facilitator and delegator) and mathematics teaching anxiety. In the other words, primary teachers gets away from the student centered teaching to teacher centered teaching when their mathematics teaching anxiety increases
