PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER CANDIDATES’ VIEWS ON GREENHOUSE EFFECT

Purpose of this study is to determine pre-school teacher candidates’ views on greenhouse effect This research has conduct with 196 preschool teacher candidate that are from Kastamonu University, whose students have a little less score than Turkey average in Research Higher Education Entrance Exam pre-school teacher department. Data gathered by draw and explain technique in the scope of this study. For analyzing data, drawings and the answers from the interviews are placed into themes that came from previous researches in a suitable way with descriptive analysis technique. Result of this study shows that majority of the teacher candidates do not have any opinion about greenhouse effect (f= 125, 63.77%). Only 19 (9.69%) teacher candidate explain it with on a scientific base. While some of the teacher candidates confused greenhouse effect with the ozone depletion (f= 16, 8.16%), another part of them confused it with the greenhouse used in agriculture (f= 14, 7.14%). Also, it is seen that five of the students that gave scientific based answer (26.3%) have limited knowledge about greenhouse gases and different factors affecting greenhouse effect. According to the findings of this research, it is advised that courses including actual information about environment and environmental problems should be included in the preschool teacher education programs
