EVALUATIONS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS ACCORDING TO THEIR SELF-EFFICACY OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND TEACHING ATTITUDES

The general aim of this research is to evaluate of prospective teachers in terms of their self-efficacy of scientific research and their teaching attitudes. Within this context, it was reviewed whether the opinions devoted to both dependent variables show a significant difference or not in terms of sex, class, age and department. that, it was tried to determine at which level and which direction there is correlation between self-efficacy of scientific research and teaching attitudes with relational analyses. The research was carried out according to relational screening method. The research sample was formed from Erzincan University Faculty of Education. A significant difference was found between the opinions of the teacher candidates in the Method, Conclusion and discussion, Suggestion and reference development subscales according to test result in which the scientific research selfefficacy scale was compared according to the division in which education was studied. According to the results of the independent groups t test of the teaching attitudes scale compared to the sex, the difference in opinion level in favor of female teacher candidates was determined in terms of Love, Value, Adaptation subscales and all. it was seen that there were positive correlations at various levels between self-efficacy of scientific research competencies and teaching attitudes. According to the results of the research, the subscales of the PDR department's scientific research self-efficacy scale and all the averages are low. It is recommended that the reason for this low average be investigated. One of the noteworthy findings in the field writing in the sense of attitude toward the teaching profession and in this research is that the priority situation which is related to the attitude towards the teaching profession is love. For this reason, an arrangement should be made that the persons who will prefer the teaching profession are made up of those who love this profession In this research, the relationship between self-efficacy of scientific research and attitudes-oriented teaching profession has been addressed. Regarding whether or not the teaching profession-oriented attitudes of prospective teachers who possessed self-efficacy in diversified scientific studies were affected here from, no research has been come across in the literature. Scientifically, changes in the teaching profession-oriented attitudes of prospective teachers who enjoy higher self-efficacy can be observed. For an effective learning activity, as with other variables, the attitude is also required to be taken into consideration. In literature, too many teaching profession-oriented studies related to the attitudes (Ustuner, 2006, Cakir, Kan and Sunbul, 2006, Semerci and Semerci, 2004, Celiköz and Cetin, 2004, Dogan and Coban, 2009). However, these studies do not provide information about the situation in terms of teaching profession-oriented attitudes in terms of scientific research selfefficacy (SRSE). While this study ensures contribution to the problems world by working with independent variables on one side, it also offers a testing facility in terms of similar variables in also with its correlational way from the other side. In this context, we can wrap up the general purpose of study is to be the assessment of prospective teachers in terms of scientific research, self-efficacy and teaching profession-oriented attitudes (TPOA). In connection of this matter, whether or not both of these two dependent variables – oriented opinions have differed significantly has been investigated in terms of gender, class, age, and the part of section being studied. Besides, it has been tried to be determined through personal analyzes at what level and direction a relation existed also between SRSE and TPOA. Method In this study, the relationship of prospective teachers between SRSE and TPOA is being investigated. Therefore, the research was conducted according to the relational survey method. The studies of Karasar (2009) where it was tried to depict and explain what the events, objects, entities, institutions, groups and various areas were "what" define to be the descriptive studies. The universe of research is composed of the students of Erzincan University, Faculty of Education. The departments of this faculty for which research permission could be obtained have been taken to the extent of this study and data collection tools have been likely to be implemented within this scope to the undergraduate education programs of Guidance and Psychological Counseling (GPC), Elementary Mathematics (EM), Computer and Instructional Technologies (CIT), music, painting and science. Third and fourth grade students have been chosen according to the criterion sampling method from the objective sampling methods in this universe. The reason for preference of the criterion sampling method is the fact that the students of last third and fourth year students have taken courses in scientific research methods or have used scientific research skills in some way. The sampling happened in the light of these details have been composed of totally 470 student. The Scientific Research Self-efficacy scale developed by Tuncer and Ozeren (2012) has been employed as the first data collection tool of research. This scale consists of 12 items and four dimensions (Literacy, Method, Conclusion and Discussion, Suggestion and Reference Development). The Cronbach Alpha coefficient for this whole scale has been calculated as .93. The second data collection tool of the research is the teaching profession attitude scale developed by Cetin (2006). This scale consists of 35 items and three dimensions (love, value, harmony). The Cronbach Alpha coefficient for this whole scale has been calculated as .94. The quintet – type Likert scales are scored as 5: Totally Agreed; 4: Agreed; 3: Undecided; 2: Disagreed; 1: Never Agreed". Findings, Discussion and Conclusion In comparisons performed from the perspective of class variable in consequence of the study, a significant difference has failed to be determined from the aspects of scientific research self-efficacy scale and sub-dimensions. Likewise, Kurt, Izmirli, Firat and Izmirli (2011) and Cuhadar, Gunduz, Tanyeri (2013) have failed to find any significant difference between SRSE and classroom variable. On the contrary thereof, Oguz (2012) has found a significant difference in favor of the fourth grades between the academic self-efficacy beliefs of the teacher candidates and the class level. Tunca and Alkin-Sahin (2014) found significant differences in favor of fourth grade prospective teachers in terms of their academic self-efficacy among the first and fourth grade prospective teachers. A significant difference has failed to be determined between the opinions of TPOA scale and classroom variables. Similarly, Aslan and Koksal-Akyol (2006), Cakır (2005) and Demircioglu and Ozdemir (2014) have failed to find any significant difference between teaching profession attitude and class level. Any significant differences have failed to be observed according to the gender-based comparison of sub-dimensions and all of the scientific research self-efficacy scale. Similarly, Tunca and Alkin-Sahin (2014), Oguz (2012), Cuhadar et al., (2013), Kurt et al., (2011) and Saracaloglu et al., (2005) have failed to find a significant relationship between scientific research self-efficacy and gender. On the contrary thereof, when Dogan (2016) has compared the student views on the academic self-efficacy scale – oriented opinions of students, the male students have pointed out a significant difference in favor of male students at the sub-dimensions of social status and cognitive practices. They have stated that the effect sizes and the gender effect calculated were at low level. In the gender – based comparison of attitude scale of teaching profession, the difference of opinion in terms of Love, Value, Harmony subscales and all of said properties have been pointed out at a significant level in favor of female students. And ones an evaluation was made in terms of effect sizes, it has been seen that gender has a strong level effect in terms of the love sub-dimensions and all dimensions of teaching profession and moderate level in terms of the value and adaptation subdimensions. Similarly, Bozdogan, Aydin and Yildirim (2007) have discovered that there was an inter-genders teaching profession – associated significant total score difference in favor of girls. Capa and Cil (2000) have identified significant differences in favor of male students in self-confidence sub-dimensions in teaching profession attitude dimension. Capri and Celikkalelli (2008) found significant differences in favor of female students between the teaching profession attitude and gender. And when they have looked at from the perspective of the effect size, they have stated that gender had a moderate effect on the attitude of the teaching profession. Cakir (2005) has stated that the teaching associated attitudes of teacher candidates have shown difference in favor of girls. On the contrary of these, Demircioglu and Ozdemir (2014) and Demirtas, Comert, Ozer (2011) have failed to find any significant difference between attitudes towards the occupation and gender. In terms of age levels, difference of opinion has failed to be determined at significant level in the Scientific Research Self-efficacy scale and sub-dimensions. When Tuncer and Yilmaz (2016) have compared scientific research self-efficacy with the age variable, found a significant difference between the literature and all of the scale being the sub-division of scale and between age group of 22 – 24 and above 25 in favor of age group of 22 – 24. Oguz (2012) has found a significant difference in favor of the students over the age of 22 between the academic self-efficacy beliefs and the age levels between 20-21 and above 22 in favor of the age group 22 – 24. Similarly, opinion difference at significant level has failed to be determined in the sub-dimension of teaching profession attitude scale in terms of age levels. As a result of this research, it has been found that there were positive correlations between TPOA and SRSE at various levels. It has been determined there was a positive correlation between SRSE scale sub-dimensions and TPOA scale sub-dimensions. A significant – level relationship has been discovered between SRSE and TPOA scale in the positive direction. This situation indicates that the teaching profession – oriented attitudes of individuals has synchronously enhanced upon augmentation of their scientific research self-efficacy. According to the outcomes of the research, the averages are low in the sub-dimensions and all of GPCD (Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department), scientific research self-efficacy scale. A reason – oriented research regarding for this much low average is recommended to be conducted. One of the findings drawing attention in the sense of teaching profession – oriented attitude in literature and this study in the sense of priority situation predicting the teaching profession – oriented attitude is the love. For this reason, an arrangement that is formed by those who love this profession is to be regulated. In addition, it is suggested to carry out researches in which the time – series patterns are used to determine how and in what direction the attitudes of prospective teachers would change throughout their studies.
