Cultural conceptualisation and bird imagery in Kutadgu Bilig

Figurative language use in different figures of speech such as metaphor, metonymy and simile, in terms of cognitive linguistics, is considered like literal language to be a conceptual phenomenon, a process based on cognition and a way of understanding. Investigations of cultural conceptualization which approaches language in terms of category, schema and cultural models also enables the limits of those comprehensions - which contain relationships between language, culture and cognition - to be determined. This paper examines cultural depictions of birds in Kutadgu Bilig which are discussed in terms of elements of cultural conceptualization
