THE ROLE OF BUSINESS SIMULATION GAMES ON THE MANAGERIAL COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES: AN EXAMPLE OF ÇANAKKALE ONSEKIZ MART UNIVERSITY

Business simulation games allow the understanding of the complexity of business processes and the development of managerial competencies. The integration of business simulation games into educational processes will enable to development of managerial competence skills of human resources that will work in future organizational processes. Unfortunately, universities have limited training in the area of application, this negatively affects the development of students' managerial competence development skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of differentiation between the perceptions of managerial competence in classrooms taught by business simulation games and the perceptions of managerial competence in the classrooms educated in the same programs where traditional teaching approaches are used. The research data was derived from the project outputs of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Çanakkale Vocational School of Social Sciences. The research project was conducted in the spring semester of 2016-2017 academic year. In the research, the administrative competence perceptions of 59 students in experiment group who were trained by business simulation and 59 students in control group who were not trained by business simulation in management and organization department were compared. In the research, experimental research method and Robertson et al. (1999) survey technique were used. The findings of the research revealed that the students who had been trained by business simulation games had a higher perception of managerial competence in teamwork, analytical thinking skills, communication skills, future orientation, leadership, specialization, helpfulness and personal development sub-dimensions than who did not trained by business simulation games. Research findings revealed that applied education processes contribute to the development of managerial competence levels.
