SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING IN MARITAL SATISFACTION: THE ROLE OF LIFE SATISFACTION AND OPTIMISM

In the lives of individuals, basic life events such as marriage and job are very important. The quality of these affects individuals’ life satisfaction levels. Also, optimism, which is a personality characteristic, can affect the level of individuals’ life satisfaction. Therefore, analyzing the relation of these concepts with each other can provide important contributions to the literature. In this context, the purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the life satisfaction and optimism variables predict marital satisfaction levels of married individuals. The survey included married individuals who reside in Ankara, volunteer, work in a high school graduate and earn income. The study group of the study; 276 (50.3%) women and 273 (49.7%) men constituted 549 married individuals. As data collection tools; Life Satisfaction Scale to determine the level of life satisfaction, Personal Information Form developed by the researcher to collect information about the socio demographic variables with the Life Orientation Test in order to determine the optimism levels were used in order to determine the marital satisfaction levels of the individuals. SPSS 22.0 statistical program was used in the analysis of the data obtained in the research. Data gathered in the study; İt was analyzed by a stepwise regression technique. As a result of the analyzes made; life satisfaction and optimism variables were found to predict marital satisfaction.
