The Relationship Between Professional Develoment and Vocational Satisfaction of School Counselors Working in Ankara Province

This resem'ch has three basic pUlposes. First purpose is to determine the levels of professional development of school counselors, Second pUlpose is to determine the relationship between professional development and '.locational satisfaction of school counselors. Third one is to determine at 'vvhich level professional de)'elopment activities and demographic variables predict the level of vocational satisfaction. The sample of study is consisted of 135 school counselor working in state schools of Ministry of Education in Ankara. The level of vocational satisfaction of school counselors was assessed by Vocational Satisfaction Scale (Kuzgun, Aydemir-Sevim ve Hamamci, 1999) The level of professional development of school counselors was measured by Professional Development Questionnaire by developed by researchers, Results indicated that school counselor generally consulted to specialist and colleges in oi'der to improve their professional development, The less frequeiit activities used by the school counselors to improve their professional development were to researching. reading andfoflowing current publications in their professional field, participation to conferences, congress, seminars .. Moreover. it wasfound that women school counselors, individuals having in service training and heing the members of an association related to their career were in effort of impr01'ing their professional development. There was moderate and signijicant relationship hetween professional development and vocational satisfaction of school counselors. The cOlTelation hetween professional development and vocational satisfaction of school counselors was highest in participation to conferences, congress, and seminm's in Professional Development Questionnaire. Stepwise regression analysis indicated that participation to coi~ferences. congress. and seminars, discussion colleges. reading current puhlications and gender were found as signijicant predictor of vocational satisfaction.
