EXPECTATIONS OF GRADUATE STUDENTS FROM LECTURERS AND THE CURRICULUM

Effective learning processes include various teaching methods and support creativity in the education methods. However, in the university context education is not always effective. Generally speaking, lecturers prefer traditional methods and techniques and do not think about the suitability of these methods for the creation of high level learning. What are the views and expectations of the post-graduate students, who constitute an essential part of the continuity of the higher education, about the programme, lecturing and assessment process? This study is designed according to the meetings with the 95 post graduate students at the Educational Sciences Institute of Gazi University in order to find answers to these questions. According to the findings, the expectations of the students match with the innovative practices in the literature. The expectations of the students incorporate practice based, peer-assessment oriented methods based on critical learning and analysis. The students also request care for and attention to the issues like increasing the number of elective courses, refraining from the classical methods and creating atmospheres based on respect and involvement.
