Image of Social Work: Students’ Interests to Working Environments and Professional Positions

Social services are perceived as “bad services fort the poor” for a long time. Such an approach is reflecting the general perception and attitude of social workers, applicants and society towards social services. Individuals who prefer to make a career in this field are effected from their own personal social progress as well as professional  advancement and status. This study is conducted on 451 voluntary students at Ankara University, Başkent University and Hacettepe University Social Departments in order to determine their leves of interest regarding occupational choices. Results of this study indicate that gender, existance of a social worker in family and acting as a volunteer in this field variables affect a student’s interest on social working environment and occupational positions.
